I’ve been a photographer for as long as I can remember, not always professional, but a photographer nonetheless.
Over the last few years I’ve taken something of a “career break” although my passion for photography has always remained undiminished. Now I’m back and looking to pick up where I left off. I’ve replaced camera bodies and lenses moving from the Canon system to the Leica M system which, I find, is more complementary to the way I prefer to shoot. But while there is always to opportunity to learn, I don’t believe that this change of equipment impacts the way I see the world, the subjects that I shoot nor the techniques that I have developed over the years (in fact it relies upon them).
In rebuilding and relaunching this site I’ve chosen only to include only a few images from my previous professional work. We should always look forward, not back. So “something old, something new, nothing borrowed, just a hint of blue” but, for now, most of the images are samples of work from personal projects and interests. I’ve rediscovered the enjoyment that shooting film can bring and although I no longer print in a darkroom, I am developing my own film and digitizing the resulting negative.
Creatively I am at my most comfortable when I am capturing people whether that be portraiture, lifestyle, editorial or environmental portraiture. I enjoy street photography because, well, it’s the people. But is is also the challenge. In the studio, and on location, I have most aspects of the shoot under my control; on the street, I have almost no control over my subject. It’s all about my eye, my reactions and my ability to capture the moment.
Finally, I hope to bring more content and commercial features to the site as I become more fully engaged again. If you want to know more about my work, gear and techniques whether digital or analogue feel free to get in touch.
